Modern German Music is currently located in the Music Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). The Music Library can be found on the basement level of the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library (pictured at left). The Music Library at UNC is ranked among the top ten academic music libraries in the United States. It contains more than 165,000 books and scores, 12,000 microforms, 55,000 audio and video recordings, and over 10,000 rare items, including 4,600 Italian opera libretti from 1600 through the 19th century. (UNC University Libraries, 2012, February 22)
Preservation at UNC is overseen by the UNC Libraries' Preservation Department, which operates out of Davis Library. The Preservation Department treats general collections materials, repairing damaged materials and replacing binding when necessary. (UNC University Libraries, 2012, February 6). Despite its age, Modern German Music is currently part of the Music Library's general collection. It is housed in the stacks at ML 275.4 .C55 and can be visited and handled there on a regular basis. This volume is in excellent condition (considering its age) with only a few minor signs of wear and tear (see photos below). As the years pass, this book will most likely be moved into a rare books location, where it will receive special care to treat issues with paper and binding. Until then, feel free to come see it in the stacks! The full text of Modern German Music is also available through the Hathi Trust Digital Library and on Google Books.
